Day 32 - The Snoopy Run, Knott's Berry Farm, Pie and the Obesity Loop™

Today was The Coaster Run at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA. My workout assignment was a Zone 2, 45 minute run and an easy 50 minute swim. The race was to take care of the run and I planned to swim after the run, however the pool was closed so no swim today. Now to the race.

I woke up at 4:00am after getting to bed at 1:30am. Hey these blog post don't write themselves!
Here is the kicker, at 2:00am the time sprung forward. So I actually only got an hour and a half. Got up, checked the weather, made my morning smoothie and headed for Buena Park. Arrived and parked the went to pick up my race packet. Unfortunately, there was a mix up and I ended up with a Medium t-shirt instead of an XL. Working on switching it. There was a bit of time to wait so I sat in my car until 7:00am. Lately, for some reason I have to pee both suddenly and often. So lots of available porta potty's are welcome. Fortunately, there were plenty. I only had to go three times.


At 7:00am I headed to my assigned wave corral. Number 6, based on my predicted pace time. "Very slow!"
Finally, it was time to go. BOOM!!! Somebody dressed in a frontiersman outfit fired a mock-gun in the air and we are off. We looped around the parking lot and into a tunnel and into the amusement park. We ran through the park and about half way through, my ankle/foot started to burn a little. So I walked a few steps and it felt okay so I began running again. Quickly the burning came back reminding me of my previous injury that took forever to heal. Dammit! I was staying in my Zone 2 heart rate but I felt like I was working a little harder than I normally do. I took it easy as much as I could, half not wanting to believe I might be hurt again! I alternated walking and light running until soon, the finish line was in view. I started to sprint and stopped myself, forcing the Z2 pace as I filmed crossing the finish line.

I got my Snoopy Medal, (what can I say, I love the medals and don't apologize for it) and was handed a bottle of water and a piece of boysenberry pie.

Did I or didn't I eat it? I'll never tell.   .   .I'm totally kidding. Though I eat a vegan diet 99% of the time, I do have those rare instances were I eat something non vegan. If it happens, I don't stress about it, because that is a guaranteed way for me to fail at eating healthy. After getting a couple pictures in front of the starting line, I limped back to the car already dreading having to fill out my training log and having my coach Chris Hauth seeing that I was injured again.

As I waited in the half hour cue to get out of the parking lot, I became ravenously hungry with my brain telling me I wanted fast food. This always happens after I eat MSG. Because I eat so clean in general, meaning almost no processed food of any kind, my body is very sensitive to any glutamate. Try giving up all processed food for one month and see how you feel when you eat processed food again. You will be shocked at the feedback loop of cravings and lack of satiation you experience. And seriously question exactly what is being put into your food and even more so, who allowed it to get in there in the first place. Certified organic and non GMO is the only way to really avoid the Obesity Loop™.  By the way, diet soda is one of the worse things to ingest if you are trying to loose weight and is one of the biggest Obesity Loop™ culprits. Avoid it at all cost!

 I got home and passed out for a few hours only to wake up with my ankle/foot feeling stiff and sore when I walk. Great. Time to ice and elevate.
