Day 80 - Long Ride and Dangerous Liasons with SUV's

April 27, 2013              242 lbs

Today was my long ride day. Workout assigned was 3:00 hours steady Zone 2.

So I dressed up, lubed up and headed out to the Rio Hondo trail. I have been looking at alternative riding locations recently. I noticed that if I turned right instead of left, I could literally ride all the way to the ocean.

I love the trail when I ride but it's time I start getting up earlier for the big rides. Especially as we head into summer.

So I got the intersection in the trail and made a right. Within a quarter mile it was obvious it was the trail less traveled.  I found this cool aqua duct/dam thingy.

At one point I had to cross a busy overpass to get to the other side. I checked if it was clear and started to cross. I had seen an SUV in the distance before I started. As I crossed, I noticed that the SUV had accelerated and had I not passed the center concrete divider, the truck would have hit me. No joking, no exaggeration. It happened so fast that by the time I turned to get the license number, the vehicle was gone. Not cool. Maybe the driver thought he was being funny trying to scare the cyclist. All I know is what I saw.

Before I had traveled very far on the new trail, it was time to head back. Thankfully, it was without incident.

I think I'm going to do a detox all next week starting Monday. I'm going to try to reset my system. I'll keep updates of how it goes. Also, I want to say thanks for reading to everyone all over the world who visit this page daily! Until tomorrow my friends.
