Day 101 - Progress Shot, The Hell Hill and Scars

May 18, 2013        234.4 lbs

First, here is a progress shot I should have posted yesterday.

Today I had a long ride of three hours and thirty minutes. As usual I headed to the Rio Hondo trail. I got there an hour earlier than usual so I had plenty of light.

While I was heading to the San Gabriel River Trail junction, I passed another rider heading the opposite direction wearing a Cal Tri kit. As I neared the 20 mile point, he caught up with me. So we chatted briefly. His name was Arnel. I told him about the blog and my weekly blog on the California Triathlon website.

I made it all the way to and past Santa Fe Dam. The picture above is the ramp to the top of the dam. I tried to capture how steep it is but couldn't quite get it. I still struggle with this ramp.

Just as I started past the park I got my turn around notification warning.  One of these days, I'll go farther.

Here is a good example of a bad angle picture. That neck fat has got to go!
This guy I passed earlier. He had set up a weight bench on the plat form and was doing dumbbell sets. The thing is, he had to drag his bench and his weights all the way out to the Dam! He must really like the view when he's doing curls.

If you can't make it out, he has a hand cart with the weight bench and an Igloo cooler with his dumbbells. I wish I had taken a picture as he was training.

A very good ride. I found myself in the drops more often during this ride. The drops are the curved part of the handlebars. I'm going to need a tri bike soon. Not sure what I will do yet. I've sent out a few sponsor inquiries but nothing yet. Let's hope!

Here is a picture of my healed leg. Nothing but a little discoloration.

Well that's it for now. Until tomorrow my friends.

  1. I didn't know what drops were. I learned something new!

  2. It was nice chatting with you Mike. Congratulations on all your accomplishments.

    1. Thanks buddy! I've been looking for you on the California Triathlon site.
