Day 94 - The Gate From Hell, Bruises From Above and The Anti Tunnel of Love

May 11, 2013        235.6 lbs

Today I was assigned a three hour zone 2 ride. I headed to the Rio Hondo trail a little apprehensive to see how the raw eating would hold up to my first long ride.

I don't know why it is, but I nearly crash every single time I go though this darn gate. This is the gate at the beginning of the Rio Hondo/San Gabriel trail by the way.
I don't know what it is. Starting to warm up, by the time I got on the path it was 93℉ but still nice out.

There is a section on the trail where people fly model airplanes in a field next to it. I guess there were some close calls so the county put up this protective canopy for people on the trail.

Found these two relaxing by the trail.

I saw a blood red snake cross the path. Never saw a snake that color before. I might have to investigate what it could be.

The last time I rode the trail in this direction, I found a silver chain on the path. I hung it on the fence hoping that the person that lost it, might find it again. Still there after two weeks.

Went farther than last time and discovered this cool old bridge.

I also rode through this very creepy tunnel at the bottom of a very short but steep hill.

The picture doesn't capture the aura of foreboding it gave off. Had a strong sense that something had happened there and I'm not even psychic! Inside, the tunnel was pretty well lit though.

This part of the trail in this direction will continue to Long Beach or the ocean. Maybe I will ride there one day.

Soon it was time to turn around and head back. At one point, this part of the trail looked like it went on forever.

A long steady ride. If anything, I felt like it was work to get to my Zone 2 heart rate and maintain it. I kept wanting to be under. Seemed like every time I didn't focus I was under. Watch alert going off constantly. By the end, I wasn't tired as much as mentally "done" but I felt good.

Well that's it for now. Gotta get up early and help some friends swim. Until tomorrow my friends.
