Day 129 - Another Long Ride and Aero Bars

June 15, 2013            234 lbs

Long ride today followed by an immediate fifteen minute run. I was supposed to do a four hour Z2 ride. I ended up doing a solid three. Plus the fifteen minute run.

I had a tough time getting out the door. The reason? In a few words.  .  .the puppy! My hats off to all parents of newborns.

This was my inaugural ride with aero bars. I like them a lot. The Profile Designs T3 aluminum bars that Will Mayberry from Triathlon Lab recommended were perfect.

I was surprised at how easy it was to maintain the position. Considering the litany of back problems I have had over my lifetime due to scoliosis, I think I held up pretty well for my first ride like this.

The little silver necklace was still hanging on the fence. I was even able to get a picture of one of the chipmunks sunning its self on a rock.

A little further on, I passed a therapeutic riding stable. I thought, "That sounds cool."

This ride I didn't feel very strong. Took awhile for my legs to warm up. Could have been the new position but I'm thinking it was a nutrition/rest issue.

Soon I was at the turn around point and thinking, I will have to make it to Long Beach on another day.
I was racing the sun once again.

I made it back just after dark, changed my shoes and started running.

It took about only eight minutes for my legs to to warm up. I kept it light and with a fast turnover. The golf course lights showing bright.

It's hard to believe that I will be forty four in two days. I often think of the last twenty years of my life and feel a bit sad at the realization that I didn't really live. When I started racing, my entire life changed. It has been a heck of a journey and I'm only getting started.

Until tomorrow my friends.
