Day 154 - Ducks, Monsters and Midnight Rain

July 10, 2013       238 lbs

As soon as I woke up today, I had to drive to Torrance to get my car fixed.  My brakes were making funny noises and it needed to be smog checked which can be tricky because it's an old car. Soon after I arrived at the mechanics, I realized it was going to take awhile so I headed out for a walk. Then I remembered that I had ordered something from The Gracie Jiu Jitsu headquarters which was reasonably close by. So I though I walk over and save the shipping. I mapped it out and saw it was on two miles away.

The first thing I came across was some duckies! And geese! They were at a small lake.

I got lost once and walked in the wrong direction for several minutes but came across several interesting things. Like this fountain at a gas station.

Or this family of deer at a Korean restaurant.

Or this very odd and very red door out of nowhere.

Or these railroad tracks that lead to no place.

Eventually, I got to the Gracie Academy as it began to rain.

It was a good time to stop by as no classes where happening and I got to look around while they located my order, a new Brazilian Jiu Jitsu coin meant to be used as a training tool during sparring.

My purpose is to use it as a reminder to stay focused on my training goals. Like a totem of sorts. The Gracie family are the creators of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

I have trained in BJJ off and on for the last three years. Mostly off! But I still love it and plan to go back to it soon.  Nothing makes you feel more confident than doing jiu jitsu. I don't care what anyone tells you.

There is a museum in the building that has a ton of memorabilia of the families history. Including the concept model for the UFC "Octagon" that was developed by Rorion Gracie when he created the UFC. By the way, the "R" in Rorion is pronounced like a "h".

I have ordered several products from these guys in the past and have always had superior customer service. Today, as a walk in, it was no different. Not only dd they snag my coin from the shipping que, but they refunded the shipping without me asking. I headed back to the garage. I ended up walking close to five miles round trip.

By the way, as I write this, the puppy, Orion, is sleeping in her puppy pen nearby and she has terrible gas!

I had to leave my car at the shop so The Boss came to pick me up in Torrance. We decided to eat and then see a film. Guess which one. . .

I think the 3D glasses look great on me!

I didn't get home until after 1:30 am. However, I knew I needed to do some kind of workout. So I decided to head out for a 30 minute run. I ultimately did 45 minutes just because I didn't want to turn around when it was time.
It started raining on me during the last half of the run. I didn't mind it though. It was somehow cleansing and at the same time a penance maybe for missing all the training lately.

It was a nice and light run with my heart rate only going out of Z2 a couple of times briefly during some short climbs.  I finished up around 2:30 am feeling great.  Until tomorrow my friends.
