Day 169 - Swimming with Hotties, Close Calls and the Forty Minute Hour

July 25, 2013         239.2 lbs

Today I had a brick routine. 3500 yard swim and one hour run. The swim workout was:

200 swim - 200 kick - 200 pull
10x100 - 10 sec rest - evry 5th one easy
10x75 - 10 sec rest - pulling, breathing 3,5,7 by 25
10x50 kick - 10 sec rest
10x25 - 10 sec rest - fast, NO FREEstyle
400 swim long and steady

I notice that as my hair gets longer, my swim cap tries to escape off the top of my head more! Fortunately the pool was empty when I got there. Well that is, until I got into my first kick set. Then a whole group of girls showed up, all vying for attention. I refused, but it was distracting. Especially when they kept getting in the way, just to pretend they weren't paying attention.

The water was clear and warm and my breathing was really good. I'm almost at the point were I don't need to focus on it anymore.

As the sun went down the sky lit up with purple and pink hues that made the clouds look like cotton candy. Unfortunately the picture didn't quite get it.

Later on after dinner, I was unmotivated and kept putting off the ride until it was 1:00 am and I had to get moving! I didn't actually start until 1:33 am.

Not a bad time to ride as there isn't much traffic at that time.

There was one person in a BMW that thought it would be funny to see how close they could get to me as they passed. I saw them creeping up and was going to "say hello" to their passenger side rear view mirror. But I missed.

I just don't get it why peoples egos get tweaked because of cyclist. Plus, as I have said before, I very much stay as far to the right as I can. Though I remember, before I started riding, wondering why cyclist didn't ride immediately next to the curb. It only took my first attempt to understand why that is not a good or safe idea. Still, if you're on the road at 2:00 am with four lanes of open road, it's hard to justify trying to get as close the to slow moving cyclist two feet from the curb.  On top of it, I was in the bike lane! So far it has only been luxury cars and their drivers that have almost hit me from behind. People.  .  .

Been thinking about wrapping my aerobars in handle bar cushion tape to make them fit my hands better. My hands are going numb sometimes from holding them so tight. Maybe I will. Pictures to follow.
I had set my timer for the ride but I pushed hard enough during it that I got back to the start faster than expected. Twenty minutes faster.  .  . Hmmm.  .  . And I wasn't pushing hard. I had done my hour ride in forty minutes.

Until tomorrow my friends.
