Day 213 - No Sleep Til Ventura.

September 7, 2013        No weight this week.

So, as soon as I signed off of Fridays blog at 4:38 am where I mentioned I was going to sleep, I realized that I couldn't.
I realized The Boss had not slept at all and had to drive an hour and a half to a make-up job in Ojai. Then she was going to have to drive back and then go to another job in Santa Monica. This worried me as she doesn't do well without sleep. So even though I had been awake for 40 hours at that point, I volunteered to drive her there, hang around for five hours and drive her back. For some reason, I thought it would be fun to take The Puppy.
So after driving to the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa to drop off The Boss, The Puppy and I went eleven miles to Ventura beach.

Since The Puppy is a "water dog", I thought it would be interesting to see her reaction to the ocean.

It was a hot day, about 101° and there was significant fog and overcast at the beach making the surfers out on the ocean look like shadows.

Surprisingly to me, the only rules regarding dogs was that you pick up after them and keep them on a leash.

We got to the beach and The Puppy felt sand for the first time. Immediately, she turned into a digging maniac! Sand and sea water were absolutely flying in all directions. But mostly, behind her! The waves would fill in the hole and she would dive back in immediately. In a matter of seconds, she had a hole a foot deep.

I looked up at one point and discovered that there was an audience watching and laughing at her antics. After about forty-five minutes, we walked along the strand towards the pier about a half mile away. It ends up that the Ventura Marathon was happening and the expo booths were being set up.

The Puppy was a big hit. She got so much attention along the strand that I got an intense workout holding her back.

We headed back to the country club while the dog passed out in the car. A first.

Once we got back, she started showing some alarming signs of being too hot. Like just stopping while walking. She did it several times and didn't respond to commands. The thing is, I had been giving her water all day. She had more water than me! The final time, we were walking to the car so I had to carry her the rest of the way. Keep in mind, this is about twenty minutes after I had barricaded us in one of the resorts high end bathrooms, filled the sink with water and put her on the sinks counter top to drink.

The place was so high end that even the golf carts were luxurious.

Finally, The Boss finished up and we headed home, arriving after 3:00 pm. I passed out about 4:00 pm and slept until 11:00 pm.
I had hoped that when I woke, I would feel refreshed and would go out for a long ride. My workout for the day was a three hour bike ride. Nope. I went right back to sleep and slept until 9:00 am Sunday. Which is when I'm writing this. Until tomorrow, or later today my friends.
